It’s All About Fishing
Have you ever been fishing?
Hello Y'all,
Today, I want to talk to you today about fishing. Fishing is a time consuming activity. It takes dedication, perseverance, and patience; it takes time. Moreover, we value our time.
Our reward for hanging in there is supper. Could be that trophy you have always dreamed of to place above your fireplace, desk, or just in the "man cave."
Now, not everyone knows how to fish or really cares to learn. And there lies our issue. I do not use the word “problem” because it gives the impression of unfixable.
Unfortunately, we have taken our Ready in 5 minutes, Fast Pick-Up Window, Drive thru, I want it now attitude and applied to everything in life. Beginning with standing in line at Wal-Mart, the local grocery store, getting tickets at the movie theater, and waiting for our food at the restaurant, we have created a sad and sorry way of life.
Now, do not get the impression I consider myself above all this, for I do not. There have been many times I have wondered: "What in the world is taking so long?”, “Why did I choose this restaurant, knowing it has a bad history?” I could have baked a potato at home and planned to take the leftovers for soup or stuffed potatoes the next night.
I believe part of my issue is through the years I have gotten into the habit of always being in a hurry, for whatever reason, I seem to think I need to get it done quickly. Go ahead and check it off my "To Do List". Why am I in such a hurry; what was I going to do when I did get home? Sit in my chair? Go online? Watch TV, (a time stealer for sure)?
Now getting back to fishing…
Fishing is like creating a business. It takes time, effort, dedication, perseverance, and patience to build a company. Just like fishing, you are the one casting the line, bracing against the wind and cold waves, wondering why you are out here. Yet, you believe you will one-day drag in “The Big One” by paying your dues now.
Building a company is the same. You start with an idea. Run it by some of your closest friends and family. Endure the skeptical remarks. Field the questions of “Why can’t you just keep going to that job?”, “You make good money at XYZ, why you want to go do this?” You explain your “dreams”, what you plan to accomplish. They in there protective manner try to dissuade you to keep what you have and be thankful.
These family and friends are not trying to be hurtful, just trying to protect you. Moreover, you have to tell them you want to learn how to “Fish.”
Creating a business is not easy and neither is fishing. It takes our precious time with unequivocal vengeance. It can consume us from morning to night and into our dreams. Our business makes us record messages to ourselves in our phones or wakes us up from sleep to jot down an idea or solution. And we smile with joy as we implement each little note into our business.
We work out a plan of action, do a rewrite, do another rewrite, pray that we have looked at all the possibilities and made allowances for all the potholes we will need to traverse along the way. Then we start by casting out the first line. Now, we wait.
The sun beats down on us, yet we cast again our line out and wait. We have faith the fish are there.
